Street permit guide · checked November 2026

Do you need a permit for a dumpster in Utah County?

Not if the bin sits on a jobsite, a gravel pad or your own driveway. A street is different: most cities need a permit or city permission before a dumpster sits on a public street or sidewalk, and several clear anything left on the street once snow starts. Here is what each city's code says, with the office to call.

Before a bin goes on a street

  • A jobsite, gravel pad or driveway needs no street permit, as long as our truck has a straight, fairly level run of about 60 feet to set the bin.
  • For a public street or sidewalk, call the city office listed below before the drop. Most cities treat a bin on the street like any other obstruction.
  • Keep fire hydrants, storm drains, curb ramps and mailboxes clear.
  • From November through March, plan on the bin sitting off the street so the plows can clear it.

Permit questions

Questions people ask about street permits

Anything not covered here, call or text (801) 785-4494 and you'll get a straight answer from someone who works here.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster on my driveway?

No. In the cities we serve, a dumpster on your own driveway, a jobsite or a gravel pad needs no street permit, though HOA rules can still apply. The truck needs a straight, fairly level run of about 60 feet to set the bin.

Which cities have winter rules for things left on the street?

Lindon and Eagle Mountain don't allow objects on city streets once snow piles up from November 1 to March 15. Alpine and Highland ban street parking from midnight to 8am from December 1 to March 31 and any time snow is present, Santaquin bans vehicles and trailers on city streets from 11pm to 7am from November 1 to March 31, and Heber City's winter parking rules start November 15.

How much does a street permit for a dumpster cost?

It depends on the city, and many don't list a dumpster fee at all. Lehi's 2026 to 2027 fee schedule lists $500 a week for a dumpster with approved traffic control. Call the city office before the drop for the current fee.

Who do I call about a dumpster on the street?

Usually the city's engineering or public works office. Each city on this page lists the right office and phone number, taken from the city's own website.
